Cancun

Last week Mike and I had the opportunity to celebrate our 5th anniversary with a trip to Cancun. It was the prefect time to get away since I'm past the morning sickness yet not too uncomfortable with my growing belly (and my swimsuit still fit which was an added bonus). We left on Friday and returned on Thursday. It seemed to be just the right amount of time to be away yet we were both more than ready to get back and see Lilly. My parents kept Lilly for the week and it was obviously apparent that she had a great time too.

Kidscape Museum

This week it has been rainy and cold out so we decided to go to Kidscape. The suggested age for this museum is 3-9 so I called ahead of time to ask if 2 yr. olds were welcome. The said it was fine and as you will see, Lilly and her friend Alea had a wonderful time. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the KC area with young kids.

Afterwards we went to Fritz's Railroad Restaurant for lunch. It's a restaurant known for delivering your order via the overhead train. The girls were quite entertained which meant that Heather and I actually were up to particpate in a grown-up converstation with minimal interuptions.

Two year check-up

This week Lilly had her two-year check up. She seems to be right on track physically, mentally and developmentally. We were most excited to find out that Lilly is continuing to gain weight and for the first time (according to the charts) she is considered average. Here are her stats:
Height: 34" (75th%)
Weight: 27lbs (57th%)
Head: 19" (75th%)
For the most part Lilly is a happy, content and playful child. Here are a few of her current favorite things:
Food:
oranges, blueberries, dried cranberries, yogurt covered raisins, applesauce, tortillas, bagels, apple slices, carrots, cookies
Toys:
pretending with play food, cup and spoon for stirring, anything with buttons, babies, blocks
Activities:
flashcards, anything outside, coloring/drawing, singing in the car, drinking out of a cup by herself, hide-and-seek with daddy (however she only understands the hiding part and even at that she hides in the same place EVERY time), books (starting to "read" to herself), praying with mommy and daddy
Comfort items:
thumb, blanky, stuffed lion (Toby)
People:
mommy, daddy, MiMi, PaPa, Alea (friend), Syd (director of children's ministry at church)
We are continually amazed at how quickly Lilly is growing and learning. It seems like each day brings a new realization that this little girl is becoming more and more independent as she continues to learn and experience the environment around her.

On Saturday we celebrated Lilly's 2nd birthday. What a fun day to celebrate the life of our little girl. We are blessed!

2 years....is that really possible?

Lilly's Birthday

It's hard to believe that two years have passed since we were heading to the hospital anxiously awaiting the arrival of our sweet Lilly. Last year I posted a blog about our birthing experience. You can read it here. You can also see her first year documented through this video. I'm still working on her 2nd year video and hopefully will have that finished soon.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Lately the weather here has been crazy. Yesterday it was sunny and 50 and today it has been raining and snowing. For a brief period of time this morning it started snowing some of the biggest snowflakes I'd ever seen. Although Lilly hasn't been feeling well Mike couldn't stand the thought of not letting her go out and play for a bit. He actually had to convince me that exposure to the cold for a brief period of time wasn't going to make her any sicker and might actually lift her spirits. Once again, he was right. Lilly absolutely loves being outside and exploring new things and the snow is no exception.

First Haircut

Today Lilly had her first haircut. A friend recommended a salon here in town that specifically caters to kids. Although they did a great job on the actual haircut I was a little disappointed overall. I had asked the lady to save the first locks of hair (assuming that this was a typical request) and immediately she started cutting away as Lilly's hair fell to the floor piece by piece. It was a bit awkward to go around afterward picking up the pieces but I did manage to gather enough to display in her baby book. Not quite the experience I was hoping for but at least Lilly managed to walk out with a decent haircut.

Unsure of exactly what is going on.
